Exploring how to Cultivate and Measure Growth Mindset and Resilience
Growth Mindset, Resilience, Grit, Determination to Succeed. These are all terms we hear a lot about in popular media as their influence on student success is discussed, but what do these terms mean and how do we foster them? Recent neuroscience findings reveal ways in which these key contributors to student success can be intentionally fostered. This 2-part workshop focuses on the methodology and the neuroscience that informs its effectiveness. Implications and limitations of implementing the method into practical training strategies for you, your colleagues, and your students will be discussed along with ways to measure whether or not grit, growth mindset, and resilience are increasing.
Part I: Understanding Grit, Growth Mindset, and Resilience Training & The Neuroscience Behind It
Part I of the workshop will focus on defining and differentiating what grit, growth mindset, and resilience means, provide an overview of the training and explain the neuroscience that supports its use and effectiveness.
Part II: Implementation & Assessment Of Resilience Training
Part II of this workshop will focus on ways to implement training on campus, highlighting key considerations for implementation and some of the limitations that exist. It will also focus on how to assess the training’s effectiveness and whether or not grit, growth mindset, and resilience are increasing.
- Define grit, growth mindset, and resilience
- Understand the neuroscience that supports the design of training for these dispositions
- Define the key parts of training
